There are many films coming to theaters this week. Below are a few you need to look out for!
If you are a Hamilton fan, have September 30th to October 2nd marked on your calendars because that’s when the documentary Satisfied will be coming to theaters. Satisfied follows Renée Elise Goldsberry, who played Angelica Schuyler in the musical Hamilton. In this film, she brings up themes such as having to navigate motherhood while also trying to balance her demanding career.
If you want a new documentary to watch, I’ve got one for you! Roads of Fire illustrates 3 different narratives, one of a human smuggler who brings refugees through Darién Gap (a dangerous remote area on the border between Panama and Columbia), a woman looking for asylum in New York City in hopes to start anew, and humanitarian volunteers on the frontlines of the crisis. This documentary takes a look at forced immigration and illustrates different perspectives, showing what this time is like for the people who have to live through it. It will be first released on October 1st at several different film festivals. Although none of them will be in Indianapolis, Roads of Fire will be coming onto streaming in the future.
Interested in sports? Dwayne Johnson is starring in The Smashing Machine, a biography about Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Mark Kerr. While Kerr is at the climax of his career, he goes through a series of personal challenges along the way. The movie was awarded a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and will be released in theatres on October 3rd.
Anemone is a drama releasing on October 3rd that explores the complex relationships between fathers, sons, and brothers. It follows a former soldier who had been living in isolation for 20 years and was eventually able to reunite with his brother.
With October coming up, you are definitely in need of a new horror movie to watch. Good Boy follows the main character Indy, a dog, and his owner, Todd. They move out of the city to a family home in the country, but Indy suspects that there is something creepy about the house. Nevertheless, he stays alongside Todd, as he would go to the ends of the Earth for him. Indy begins to see supernatural things in the house along with visions of the past homeowner’s death. On top of that, Todd begins to fall into the darkness of the house, and Indy must help him. It is unique because the whole film is told from the dog’s point of view. Good Boy will come to theaters on October 3rd and was rated 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Along with all of this new cinema, it is also good to revisit the movies you love. Here are movies re-releasing in theaters soon:
