Searching for fun ways to spend a fall weekend? If yes, then look no further than Yachtoberfest, a yacht-rocking Oktoberfest happening Saturday, September 27, at Herron Morton Park (1927 N. Alabama St.), from 3pm to 10pm. This annual event is a fundraiser for the neighborhood park, helping to keep it operational as a privately funded community space.

What is Oktoberfest?
Oktoberfest originated in Munich, Germany, to celebrate the royal wedding of 1810. Now it is the largest beer and folk festival and is still being celebrated around the world. Despite it being called Oktoberfest, celebrations for it start in mid-September to early October, taking advantage of the warm weather.
The Oktoberfest celebrated in Herron-Morton is a smaller, more local event, but still brings together neighbors, friends, and families to enjoy the park and the spirit of the community. The theme of this year’s Oktoberfest is a sub-genre of soft rock that was popular in the 1970’s and 80’s called yacht-rock.
What will be there?
This year, the neighborhood welcomes GREEKS pizza, Samona’s Mexican food, and Liftoff Creamery, as well as a grill serving bratwurst, hot-dogs, and more, managed by the local neighborhood grill masters. If a cool, refreshing drink is what you need, local Craft beer and cider are being sold as well as non-alcoholic drinks, so everyone can enjoy (bonus: if you’re one of the first 1000 guests, congrats, you get a free mug).
You can also enjoy listening to several local bands who are performing. These musicians will guide the way through the evening with their yacht-mazing tunes. Local bands include Starboard, Weird Theory, Nick Zyromsk, MG Bailey, and Cover Your Tracks. In between the bands, DJ Eezyrider will be keeping the music flowing.
Not only is it a fun evening out for the whole family, but all proceeds go directly to maintaining the beautiful park. By simply showing up, grabbing a bite to eat, enjoying some music, and spending time with old and new friends, you will be helping to make the neighborhood park a better place for all to enjoy!
